Sadness is a radical quantity

So there was a problem with the link for episode #23.
It has now been fixed.

Ok.
So.
This record has a story.
This woman recorded these songs sometime in the seventies. They sit in a drawer for thirty-some years until her son finds them and puts them out.
They are beautiful. Poetic. Like a lady Leonard Cohen.
Think of all the beautiful things that people make and then stick into drawers or cabinets or suitcases. It makes me happy to think of all that tucked-away beauty.

Episode #23

Here's what Sarah told me about this photograph:
"State park, forget name, north of providence in mass. It's a stuffed wolf but looks so alive right. funny story. Set up pic and was waiting for sun to rise and a passing car called the cops cause they thought it was real and going to eat me. cops came and yelled at me. I said I'm sorry I go to art school but they were not amused."

She later added:
"just remembered name of park, purgatory's chiasm, what a name how could I have forgotten"
So...
Kenan and Mikey couldn't make it this week. But no worry, I invited my friend George Langford from Javelin to come and play some of his amazing collection of obscure weirdo music from all over the world. Javelin is an awesome music making Duo, who are formerly of Providence, Rhode Island, currently of New York, New York and imminently dropping a 12" EP on Civil Music (UK) this fall & who if they were to be combined into one person would look like this:

This Week Kenan's busy getting ready to get married (to the beautiful, talented, miss Ro Agents).

How come the black wolf got to look all vicious and shit. These shirts are straight up racist.

I thought the last show was all over the place a little bit. So I wanted to come out strong with 19. To Redeem myself. So I went into the stacks and pulled out some dusters, dusted them off, and had a party.

Isn't It a Pity

It is a pity that this song got cut off the end of episode #18.
It was a technical problem.
So here it is in its entirety .
It was a shame it got cut off because it is a meditation and should be left to wash over you.
This song is heartbreakingly beautiful.
It is a George Harrison song. But Nina Simone doesn't merely cover songs she re-invents them and makes them her own. This is a Nina Simone song.

If you listen closely - you can hear her commenting to herself on the lyric she just sung. Changing her mind perhaps. Or adding an aside. But contemplating the song. While she's singing it.

We are just listening to her inner conversation. She is having an experience on stage with her piano, her brain, and god I suppose. And she's generous enough to allow us to listen in.

check it.

Pamphlet #1

I wrote a book pamphlet.

It's not real. It's all made up.

I made it with my bare hands.

It costs three dollars. If you know me in real life and you see me on the street or something I will just give you one. But you should give me three dollars anyway. Because It's only three dollars.

If you would like one and you don't know me personally, you can either order one through paypal (see below) or you can just put three dollar bills and two un-used first class united states postal stamps into an envelope and send it to:

J. Cox
455 9th street
Brooklyn, NY 11215

I prefer this method because you can really just put three dollar bills in the mail, drop it in a mailbox. You can do that. And it's only three dollars. you got that. And I will send you this beautiful hand-made art pamphlet I made .

(make sure to include your return address)

or you can just paypal:

Episode #16

On this Episode Mikey plays a song so cheesy he later feels compelled to apologize for it. Then later I play a song which offends Kenan so much it sparked a heated ideological conversation about the concept of context in music.

See if you can pick them out.

Plus mad obscure beautiful bangers.
